English as a Second Language - Grades 10 - 12
English as a Second Language students are those who have arrived in Canada from a foreign country where English is not the first language.
All students at the secondary level who have been placed into ESL are programmed into age-appropriate grade level electives plus ESL- support classes.
The number of regular courses a student takes increases as their ability to work with the English language improves.
Students are no longer eligible for ESL classes when they are successfully integrated into a full-time regular program. This is at the discretion of the ESL teacher in consultation with the student, parent and school officials.
