Second Semester - Important Information

January 28, 2021

January 27, 2021

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Beginning in the second semester, students at Mission Senior Secondary will have the opportunity to attend a second day, face-to-face at school. We have been given guidance through Fraser Health and our District to offer this second day of face-to-face instruction with COVID-19 protocols in place. The schedule will be as follows:

Monday cohort with Thursday cohort
Tuesday cohort with Friday cohort
Thursday cohort with Monday cohort
Friday cohort with Tuesday cohort

In other words:

Monday: A-D and L-R
Tuesday: E-K and S-Z
Thursday: A-D and L-R
Friday: E-K and S-Z

This additional time for your child will be crucial for the continued success of their learning and will provide some needed social emotional contact with students, teachers, and support staff. It is important for both the student and teacher as in-class interactions allow the teacher to support student learning more effectively and to catch errors more promptly. We are finding students are most engaged with their studies when they are in class. This will also allow teachers to better support students who have challenges with the online learning portion of the curriculum.

It is important for all of us to continue to adhere to the provincial health regulations for COVID-19.

  1. We will have the two groups of students in the same classroom, but they will be separated with a gap in between where possible. Where this is not possible, students will be required to be masked.
  2. As per usual, any students attending who are not in those cohorts would have to be masked, including those students who are unable to safely socially distance.
  3. As before, everyone in the building will be expected to have masks on in all common areas.
  4. It is also important to make sure that where-ever possible we try and social distance from each other following the six-foot regulation.

It is important that at Mission Senior Secondary, we always wear masks in all public areas, including in the hallways and in the cafeteria. We are hopeful that taking this next step will provide students the opportunity to continue their learning and will provide more face-to-face instruction so students will continue to grow educationally.

Sincerely,

Jim Pearce
