Student Literacy/Numeracy Assessments - January 24 to 27, 2022

November 19, 2021

Literacy 10/12 and Numeracy 10 Assessments

This year, students will be writing the Provincial Literacy 10 and 12, and/or Numeracy 10 Assessments during the week of January 24th - 27th, 2022 (January 28th is a turnaround day),   If your child has both English and Math, they will be writing both assessments. If either course is linear (year-long), they will not write until June.  In general, these Assessments are meant to be a more wholistic view of our students' literacy or numeracy skills, as they near graduation, as opposed to student's understanding of content from a particular English or Math class.  Students will be writing in the semester they have an English 10 or Math 10 course.

1.  All Grade 10s are required to write this assessment, and this assessment:

·     is meant to be reflective of life, not just one English or Math class;

·    completed online;

·    marking rubric is out of 4.

2.  When do students write?

·     All students must show up during their allotted time (TBD);

·    Student should not attend if they are ill, however, this Assessment is necessary to graduate.  Please contact Ms. Fraser if you will not be attending due to illness.

·   Most students will be completed within two hours; however, the Assessment is available online for three hours for those who need extra time.

3.  On the day of writing the assessment, students, please be aware:

·    Bring your student ID card or picture ID

·    For the Numeracy assessment bring a Calculator you are comfortable using and pen/pencil

·    Be prepared to put your phone, purse, earphones, etc. away from the computer

·    No food in the gyms

·  For those students who traditionally write exams in a Resource room, please contact your Case Manager if you wish to write there. Additionally, if requiring additional supports, such as a reader, please contact your Case Manager.

4.  When will students write?

·    Arrive at 8:15AM and write from 8:30 – 11:30AM

     OR

·    Arrive at 11:45AM and write from 12:00 – 3:00PM

5.  How do families prepare? Where can I find more information?

·    This is not an assessment you can “cram" for

·    More information on Numeracy can be found at

      https://curriculum.gov.bc.ca/provincial/grade-10-numeracy-assessment

6.  Day of Writing:

We will write in the gyms and ask students to write based on their classroom teacher.  Students, please come to the office if you need clarification on the day your write on.  Again, as mentioned above, Resource Students may have alternate time to write.  Please see your Case Manager for further details
